Record Store Day 2012

Artists, Colin Hay, Features — By on April 20, 2012 7:53 pm

Second only to National Pancake Day, Record Store Day is my personal favorite day of the year. RSD falls on April 21 this year, so go out and support your local independent record store. You can pick up some new or used vinyl while enjoying the unique scents of cellophane and patchouli at that funky little hole-in-the-wall shop in the cool neighborhood near your house.

In the spirit of this lovely day, Colin Hay has announced a limited edition vinyl version of his 2011 release, Gathering Mercury. Over the course of a solo career that has spanned the decades since he made his musical mark on popular music as the front man of the multi-platinum selling Men at Work, Hay has never delivered a finer, more keenly honed solo set. In response to fan demand, Hay is releasing this limited edition on 180 gram vinyl in time for Record Store Day 2012. Gathering Mercury reveals Hay’s emotional depth and musical diversity and earned Hay appearances on TV appearances on Craig Ferguson, Ellen and CNN as well as an ARIA award nomination in Australia. The songs are deeply affecting but never maudlin. Despite the serious subject matter, they’re full of Hay’s usual optimism with arrangements featuring his quizzical, instantly recognizable tenor vocals supported by acoustic instruments and melodic electric guitar accents.

Colin Hay is a lovely guy, we supported him at a gig in Edinburgh a couple of years back and had a really nice night. I was really impressed with him live, amazing way of connecting with the audience. Big into record store day too… There’s nothing quite as good as vinyl! We have one of our singles released as a 7 inch, we loved the day we got them back from the pressing plant! Was a brilliant feeling… Ashton Lane (5 free songs at )
