Two-Part Documentary: Mumford & Sons

Formed in 2007, this West London quartet has a gutsy, old-time sound choc-a-bloc with passion and a fresh, unbridled energy. They take their music seriously, but not themselves; we certainly appreciate that.

The four friends (Marcus Mumford, Country Winston, Ben Lovett, Ted Dwane) were each playing in other bands when they found themselves performing Marcus’ songs for other friends at underground folk shows in London. With a shared passion for country, bluegrass and folk, they decided to make music that was loud, proud and live. “It was a very exciting time,” says Mumford, “and though we loved it and were in awe of the music going on around us, we didn’t consider ourselves contenders in the pretty daunting London music scene. There was never any idea of competition, just pure enjoyment.”

This mini-documentary highlights their resplendent joy and passion for touring. Enjoy the videos, and later, check out Marcus’ Book Club blog. Their debut, Sigh No More, was just released on Island Records.
